Docker on openSUSE

The official Docker documentation is more than enough for the installation and configuration.

For the quick jump into the docker world I wrote some references from the official documentation down.
So the most important steps from the requirements and the main guideline for the installation:
– Docker requires a 64-bit installation
– Kernel must be 3.10 at minimum

Upgrade opensuse 15.0 to 15.1

openSUSE Leap

openSUSE Leap 15.1 is available at the end of May 2019, and the upgrade process is simple.
Note, that it is always a good idea to:
– look into the upgrade release notes to make sure, you don’t run in any deprecations with your currently running software
– run a backup or a snapshot of the system, which will going to be upgraded.

OpenSUSE unattended upgrades

I was looking around to find something similar to perform update-automation on openSUSE distribution, just like in Debian GNU Linux.
Some pretty way, without hacking a bash script and adding it to the cron…

It seems, there is a build in solution which is unfortunately configurable out of YaST2.

Upgrade opensuse 42.3 to 15.0

openSUSE Leap 15 is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE).
The name “Leap 15” is meant to match the SUSE Linux Enterprise Version it is based off of.
(SUSE Linux Enterprise 15) Leap 15 uses Linux Kernel 4.12 LTS.
This guide was written during a upgrade from 42.3 to 15.0 and worked like a charm.

Try it out and bring you systems to a new level.

KVM-Virtualization under OpenSUSE

KVM, Kernel-based Virtual Machine, is a hypervisor built into the Linux kernel. It is similar to Xen in purpose but much simpler to get running.

Unlike native QEMU, which uses emulation, KVM is a special operating mode of QEMU that uses CPU extensions (HVM) for virtualization via a kernel module.
