This post describes some technology facts of the german domain registrar companies and their technology(-less) and motivation(-less) mentality from the customer side.

I started to use the InterNetworX, nowadays INWX services with my first domain[zeldor.biz], it was around 01.22.2009,
so for the time of writing of this post – it was 10 years ago!!
If I compare my INWX experience over the past 10 years with other (registrar-/hosting-/colocation-) companies like united-domains.de, net.de, united-domains.de, strato.de or 1und1.de I can proudly say:
INWX is and will stay my favorite choice for private and business segment.
Why is it so?
– great and friendly support with very short reaction time
– it doesn’t matter how big your account value is, are you a company, or a private person
– very well structured website and intuitive usage
– functionality: you can set glue records over the domain robot ;)
– API! more than 10 programming languages are supported
– moderate prices
Not all of the above companies provide a API to their domain robots. Support requests with questions about their plans to implement a API are running into simple answers: we don’t have a API… Their plans regarding the implementation of the API are not really transparent.
Not each registrar has a intuitive domain robot website with all required functions.
Everything what is not available over the domain robot website, has to be requested via support. Bagga!
Another experience from a support-request to one of the above companies:
not competent changes of glue records which caused a massive issue for the whole company-infrastructure.
Its very simple to talk with the customer about the planed changes and not just perform them, because of just testing, if it may help out…
Conclusion
it’s very important to give your domains into good hands and company which understand their business well.
If you are looking for a competent domain-registrar in Germany, you have to try INWX!
My private infrastructure is connected with the INWX-API with a python connector.
Unfortunately INWX provide only python 2.6 and python 2.7 client.
But this is not a big deal. The client can be easily “converted” into python3. This link provide you the final converted python3 client with an example.py to get a overview of your registered domains, their states and transfer lock-information.
