March 16, 2011 by Igor Drobot Leave a Comment

Next Generation Remote Display – NX is an exciting new technology for remote display. It provides near local speed application responsiveness over high latency, low bandwidth links.

Was tested on Ubuntu 10.10 Codenamed “Maverick Meerkat”. Works on Debian 6 too;)

Edit your source list or create a new one:

1
vim /etc/apt/sources.list.d/freenx.list

vim /etc/apt/sources.list.d/freenx.list

This will be the content:

1
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/freenx-team/ppa/ubuntu/ intrepid main

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/freenx-team/ppa/ubuntu/ intrepid main

Install:

1
aptitude update && aptitude install freenx

aptitude update && aptitude install freenx

Configure it:

1
2
/usr/lib/nx/nxsetup --install
#answer with Return(NO)

/usr/lib/nx/nxsetup --install #answer with Return(NO)
